Examining the Virgin Mary’s lost humanity, rediscovered through the stories shared by women living in Ireland, gathered around the kitchen table, For the Love of Mary asks what it is to be a woman in Ireland.
Viewed through the lens of a woman from a Protestant/Unionist background, displaced by the Troubles into a Nationalist area and spent most of her life living in Nationalist areas, the play maps the writer’s personal fascination with the character glorified as the epitome of female identity.
