Based in Northern Ireland, Lucy is best known for her novels, stage plays, radio dramas and her two collections of short stories. Among her many (many!) awards are the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature, the Dylan Thomas Award, the Irish Writers’ and Screenwriters’ Guild Award, and the BBC National Short Story Award. In 2018, Lucy was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. You’d have to join a waiting list for her Faber Academy short story course, so we’re delighted she’s spending some time with us at Spread the Word Literary Festival! In this online conversation, Lucy will give an insight into her career and her writing techniques.

Housed within a beautifully converted old factory, the Waterside Theatre programmes a range of quality arts and entertainment throughout the year. It also produces an extensive Education Programme which complements that of the theatre and caters for all ages from pre-school children to senior citizens. Cascade Gallery is based within the Waterside theatre and is a commercial gallery for artists, with over 32 metres of hanging space. The theatre's capacity holds 372, with free on-site car parking, a full-screen cinema and a fully licensed cafe bar and lounge bar, this is the perfect venue for evening entertainment or hosting a conference. Breakout rooms are also available.
